Terms ofService.

Draft: this hasn’t been reviewed by a lawyer yet and may change before Bruise launches.

Last updated October 1, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Layer7 Technologies, Inc., which runs Bruise. By making an account or using Bruise, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.

Who can use Bruise

You need to be at least 13. If you’re under 18, you need a parent’s, guardian’s or school’s permission. One person per account: keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else got in.

Hack only what we give you

Bruise teaches attacking and defending systems on targets we built for practice. Only attack those targets, only through the challenge environments Bruise gives you, and only while they’re yours. Never attack Bruise itself, its servers, other players, or anything outside the challenges. What you learn here is for defending systems and for testing you’re authorized to do: using it against systems you don’t have permission to test can be a crime, and that’s on you.

Found a real security problem in Bruise? Tell us privately and give us a chance to fix it before you share it. We won’t take action against good-faith reports that stay within these terms.

Play fair

  • Don’t share flags or answers, or use someone else’s. Every player’s flags are their own.
  • Don’t post solutions to an event’s challenges while the event is running.
  • Don’t automate submissions, scrape Bruise, or get around rate limits, the bot check, or exam lockdown.
  • Don’t use the AI tutor to dig out answers it’s been told not to give.
  • Keep handles, names, writeups and team names free of harassment, hate, and anything illegal.

We can adjust scores, take down content, and suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and we’ll usually tell you why.

Your writeups

Writeups and other things you post stay yours. You let us host them and show them to other players as Bruise describes (for example, to players who have solved the same challenge), and we can remove them.

Instructors and schools

If you run a class on Bruise, use what you see about your students only to teach them, and make sure you have any permission your school needs to use Bruise with them. Extra time, grades and feedback you give are part of your class’s records.

Scores and certificates

Points, ranks and certificates show what you did on Bruise. We may correct them for bugs or rule breaks. A Bruise certificate isn’t an academic credit or a professional certification.

Price

Bruise is free right now. If we add paid plans later, we’ll say what they cost before anything is charged.

No guarantees

We work to keep Bruise running and your data safe, but Bruise is provided as it is, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, Layer7 isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses from using Bruise, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the past 12 months (nothing, while Bruise is free).

Ending things

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put Bruise or other people at risk.

Changes and contact

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll tell you on Bruise first and may ask you to agree again. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado. Questions: contact Layer7 Technologies, Inc. at the address on l7.gg.
